PREPARATIONS

  • Visas for our individual travelling through Myanmar were easily obtained from the Myanmar Consul in Breda Netherlands. We ordered the papers by fax, completed these and gave these with the pictures to the consul. We paid for the visas and the stamp. We received the visas by post not yet 1 week later.

  • Travevellers'cheques were only used in Thailand, not in Myanmar. But the cost in Myanmar was less than expected, because of the favourable ratio 1 USD = 750 - 900 Kyats. Unfavourable was the ratio Belgian currency to the USD

  • We got the usual vaccinations.for these regions: tetanos, hepatitis B, malaria tablets

  • Most of the information we collected came from the Lonely Planet Myanmar 2000 and from the internet. A small part from reports in Wegwijzer - not much, because the country has not yet been visited on a large scale. Before leaving, we bought 1 map: Myanmar from Nelles, rather expensive and no indication of any distance between cities
